How You Can Help

Join our team of volunteers

As a volunteer, you'll help provide refreshments and above all a listening ear to the hundreds who 'drop in' each week.

Some may be homeless and sleeping rough, living in hostels, lonely or with mental health problems, or young people needing accommodation or experiencing drug, alcohol or solvent abuse problems. Many need help to set up homes.

Volunteers may come for one session once a week, or perhaps on a fortnightly basis, while others offer their names on a standby rota.

Collect goods

We are always pleased to accept good, nearly new clothing, household equipment and kitchen utensils. We also need tins and packets of food, particularly soup, meat and fish.

Provide financial assistance

The Centre is dependent on donations and grants to keep functioning. We are currently receiving grant support from the Community Fund for our resettlement and training work. However, we still depend on donations to assist with our day-to-day running costs, and any financial help you can offer will be gratefully received.

There are a couple of other ways you can support us financially:

  • by taking part in the TLC lottery, which benefits a number of local charities, including Fireside
  • by purchasing goods and services through Easyfundraising, and nominating Fireside to receive a proportion of the cost of your purchases. Many popular stores and companies are participating, including Dell, Amazon, McAfee, ebay, Marks & Spencer, Halfords, and Thomas Cook. Visit the Easyfundraising website for a complete list.

You can also support the project by remembering us in your prayers and writing to your local MP or Councillor when issues regarding the homeless are needing to be addressed.

If you have any queries about volunteering at the Fireside, please call us on (0121) 666 6866 or send us an email.
